Reader DNA and quiz data: We collect the answers you give in the Reader DNA quiz, used to generate your reader archetype and House, and to personalize recommendations.
Reading activity: We collect the books you add to your TBR shelf, mark as read, rate, swipe on during onboarding, or otherwise interact with, in order to power recommendations and app features.
Content you post: If you post reviews, comments, community posts, stories/chapters, or recommendations, we store and may display that content within the Service, subject to your privacy settings.
Optional profile information: You may choose to add social media handles or other public profile details. This information is only shown to other users if you toggle it to public in your settings.
Age verification: If you attempt to access an 18+ gated section of the Service, we ask you to enter your date of birth to confirm you meet the age requirement for that content.
Usage and device data: We may automatically collect limited technical information (such as device type, browser, and general usage patterns) to help us maintain and improve the Service.
Payment information: Payments are processed by our third-party payment provider, Paystack. We do not directly collect or store your full card details — Paystack handles payment processing and is subject to its own privacy policy.
2. How We Use Your Information
We use the information we collect to:
- Create and manage your account and subscription
- Generate your Reader DNA archetype and House, and personalize book recommendations
- Operate features like TBR shelves, ratings, follows, tagging, and community content
- Send you Service-related emails (e.g., subscription confirmations, trial reminders, feedback responses)
- Improve and develop the Service, including our recommendation logic
- Respond to feedback or support requests you send us
- Operate our Amazon Associates affiliate program — some book links within the Service are affiliate links, and we earn a small commission on qualifying purchases you make through them, at no additional cost to you
- Detect and prevent misuse of the Service
3. Sharing of Information
We do not sell your personal information.
We may share information:
- With other users, but only the information you have chosen to make public via your privacy settings (e.g., public profile details, TBR shelf, social handles)
- With service providers, such as our payment processor (Paystack) and hosting/infrastructure providers, solely to operate the Service
- If required by law, or to protect the rights, safety, or property of Next Obsession, our users, or others
4. Your Privacy Choices
You can control what's visible to other users through your profile's privacy toggles (social media section, trope/quiz-derived data, and TBR visibility).
You can edit your quiz answers, archetype information, and personal/account information at any time in your settings. You can edit or delete your own posts and submitted content.

5. Data Retention
We retain your information for as long as your account is active or as needed to provide the Service. If you delete your account, we will delete or anonymize your personal information within a reasonable period, except where we are required to retain it for legal or legitimate business purposes.
6. Age-Gated Content and Date of Birth
Next Obsession does not require a general minimum age to use most of the Service. Certain 18+ or explicit sections (such as parts of the Trigger Corner and explicit user submissions) require you to enter your date of birth to confirm you are 18 or older before you can access them. We use this date of birth solely to verify eligibility for age-gated content and do not use it for other purposes.
The Service is not intended for use by young children, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children in violation of applicable law.
7. Security
We take reasonable measures to protect your information, but no method of transmission or storage is 100% secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security.
