Please read these Terms of Service ("Terms") carefully before using the Next Obsession app and website (the "Service"), operated by Next Obsession ("we," "us," "our").
By creating an account or using the Service, you agree to be bound by these Terms. If you do not agree, please do not use the Service.
1. The Service
Next Obsession is a subscription-based reading platform for romance and romantasy readers, offering a Reader DNA quiz, personalized book recommendations, TBR shelf management, a reader community, and related features.
2. Eligibility
Next Obsession does not set a general minimum age to create an account and use most features of the Service.
Certain areas of the Service contain 18+ or explicit content (for example, parts of the Trigger Corner and explicit indie author or fan-fiction submissions). To access these gated areas, you will be asked to enter your date of birth to confirm you are 18 years of age or older. If you do not confirm you meet this age requirement, you will not be able to access those specific sections, though you may continue using the rest of the Service.
You are responsible for providing accurate age information. Attempting to misrepresent your age in order to access age-gated content is a violation of these Terms.
3. Accounts
You must provide a valid email address to create an account. You are responsible for maintaining the confidentiality of your account and for all activity that occurs under it. Notify us promptly at Info@nextobsessionrealm.com if you suspect unauthorized use of your account.
4. Subscription Plans, Free Trial and Free Plan
The Service offers a 7-day free trial with full access to every feature, starting when you complete the Reader DNA quiz. No payment card is required to start the trial. You must sign in with a valid email to access your trial and receive Service communications. The trial is limited to one per email address.
When the trial ends, your account moves onto the free plan. Nothing is deleted: your books, shelves, ratings, notes, reading history and everything you have written stay on your account and remain readable and exportable.
The free plan includes your account and Reader DNA profile, your full library and reading history, private notes, reading stats and goals, the catalogue and book pages, and reading reviews posted by other readers. It includes a capped bookshelf — two shelves, up to three books per shelf and three décor pieces — with no Collections, no background changes and limited customisation, which are shown in the app with a lock.
A paid subscription unlocks the full bookshelf and its customisation, Collections, personalised search and discovery, reading analytics, posting reviews and comments, the community hubs (the Realm, the Inkwell and the Trigger Corner), books-to-screen tracking, and writing and publishing new work.
Current subscription tiers are:
- One Night Stand (Monthly) — $4.99/month (flexibility, cancel anytime)
- Situationship (6 Months) — $21.99 billed every 6 months (save ~27%)
- Book Boyfriend (1 Year) — $39.99 billed annually (save ~33%, best value)
- Fated Mates (Lifetime) — $99.00 one-time payment (never pay again)
Pricing is shown at sign-up and on our pricing page and may change from time to time; we will provide reasonable notice of any price changes affecting active subscribers.
Founding members: readers who joined through an early-access invitation before launch have lifetime access at no cost, recorded on their account.
Next Obsession is a South African-based service. Plan prices are displayed in US dollars for reference, but all charges are processed in South African rand (ZAR), at the amount configured for the plan you choose. The amount appearing on your card or bank statement may differ from the displayed figure due to currency conversion or fees applied by your own bank or card issuer.
5. Delivery of Service
Access to Next Obsession's features is delivered digitally and immediately upon successful subscription activation (or upon starting your free trial). There is no physical delivery associated with this Service.
6. Billing and Renewal
Monthly, 6-month, and annual subscriptions renew automatically at the end of each billing period unless cancelled before the renewal date. The Lifetime tier is a one-time payment and does not renew.
You can cancel your subscription at any time; cancellation takes effect at the end of your current billing period, and you will retain access until then.
7. User Content
You retain ownership of content you submit (reviews, comments, stories, chapters, recommendations, etc.). By posting content, you grant us a non-exclusive, worldwide license to host, display, and distribute that content within the Service, consistent with the visibility settings (public, group, or private) you select.
You are responsible for the content you submit and must not post content that is illegal, infringing, or that violates our content guidelines, including rules around explicit or dark content, which must be accurately labeled and, where applicable, age-gated.
8. Content Moderation
Submissions involving explicit or sensitive content (including indie author submissions and serialized fiction) are subject to review before publication, including automated pre-screening and manual approval. We reserve the right to reject, remove, or restrict access to any content that violates our guidelines.
9. Acceptable Use
You agree not to misuse the Service, including by attempting to circumvent age gates or content warnings, harassing other users, posting content involving real, identifiable individuals without consent, or using the Service for any unlawful purpose.
10. Intellectual Property
The Service, including its design, features, and branding, is owned by Next Obsession. Book cover images, titles, and related metadata belong to their respective rights holders and are used for identification and recommendation purposes.
Affiliate Links / Amazon Associates
Next Obsession is a participant in the Amazon Associates Program, an affiliate advertising program designed to provide a means for us to earn fees by linking to Amazon.com and affiliated sites. Some book links within the Service (including "Buy on Amazon" buttons) are affiliate links. As an Amazon Associate, we earn a small commission from qualifying purchases at no additional cost to you. Our recommendations are driven by your Reader DNA and reading activity, not by affiliate status, and we only link to books we believe our readers will enjoy.
11. Termination
We may suspend or terminate your account if you violate these Terms. You may stop using the Service and delete your account at any time via your settings or by contacting us.
12. Disclaimer
The Service is provided "as is." Book recommendations are generated using a combination of algorithmic signals and reader data and are provided for entertainment and discovery purposes; we do not guarantee that any recommendation will match your preferences.
13. Limitation of Liability
To the fullest extent permitted by law, Next Obsession will not be liable for any indirect, incidental, or consequential damages arising from your use of the Service.
14. Changes to These Terms
We may update these Terms from time to time. Continued use of the Service after changes take effect constitutes acceptance of the revised Terms.
